I am a neurologist and clinical scientist interested in multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica and other inflammatory demyelinating diseases of the CNS. I have completed my neurology training and PhD thesis in the Department of Neurology at the Medical University of Lodz. I was subsequently a postdoctoral research fellow in the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Oxford where I was involved in pioneer studies aimed at clinical, radiological and metabolomic characterisation of CNS demyelinating diseases, including a newly recognised condition associated with autoantibodies against myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein. I was also a Neurology Consultant with a special interest in multiple sclerosis in Hampshire and London Hospitals. Having obtained funding from the NAWA Polish Returns programme I have relocated to Poland and am now leading a research group in the Laboratory of Brain Imaging at the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology in Warsaw.
My current research is aimed at optimising MR imaging methods to allow for accurate diagnosis of patients with atypical forms of CNS demyelination and combined features of multiple sclerosis and neuromyelitis optica.
